So Long, Farewell, auf Wiedersehen, Adieu...

I think the first sign was when I noticed about seven drafts of half-written posts that I never got to finishing.  Just sitting there. Waiting.
Or the times I had to put off playing with my young children because I was fixing or finishing something on the blog.  Mommy just needs five more minutes of staring at this computer screen and then I'll be present...
Then there were all the super cool crafts or recipes I made and wanted to share, but just didn't get around to taking photographs.  Let alone the perfect photographs with lighting and graphics.  I mean, seriously, who can keep up?
Long story short, turns out this blogging business takes up more time than I have to give.  Turns out creating artsy things for my home and recipes for my family is reward enough and writing, photographing and posting them to the blogosphere kinda takes the fun out of it.
So...My blog will stay up, but I'll no longer be posting.  You'll still find me on EtsyFacebook and Pinterest.  If you're local you'll see me at many of the craft shows around town.  But for now, I bid adieu to the blog.
Thank you for reading, following and supporting my endeavor.
Happiest of holidays to you all!

Favorites: Fall Edition

Last Friday we met my son's class at the splashpad.

Today I wore shorts and a tank top.

It's still 83 degrees when I take the kids to school in the morning.

These facts don't exactly scream "fall", but it's coming.  Oh yes, it's coming.  And everyone I know is all atwitter about wearing boots and scarves again, where to find the best pumpkin candles, and new homemade soup recipes to try.  So without further ado, here are my current fall faves...

Method hand soap & dish soap in limited edition Pear Ginger by Orla Kiely.  Love the bottle design, love the scent.  Makes doing dishes much more, dare I
Method Orla Kiely Gel Hand Wash - Pear Ginger 12 oz
Nutmeg & Spice Candle by White Barn at Bath & Bodyworks.  Sweet Pumpkin is always a favorite, but oh how I'm smitten with this new scent.

My velvet pumpkins - just coming out from storage.  Remember these from last year?  Here is the tutorial if you'd like to add some to your home.

David Rio Chai Tea from Cost Plus World Market.  A friend turned me on to this chai a few weeks ago and I'm hooked!  It's like fall in a cup - so yummy!

Petal Pusher Resin Rings in fall colors.  Check out the mustard, plums, greens and creams for the fall season in my Etsy Shop

Resin Flower Ring, Goldenrod Yellow Peony Flower Ring, Adjustable Ring

Any recipe with roasted Brussels sprouts.  This one from Cookie & Kate looks to die for and must try soon.  A friend made me one recently involving the requisite Brussels sprouts along with butternut squash, cauliflower, fresh pomegranate seeds and a horseradish vinaigrette.  Phenomenal!

roasted brussels sprouts with cranberries and barley

This has been my morning meal for the last couple of months.  The nutty flavor and crunchy texture is out of this world.  You can find it at Costco currently and I'm told it's also available at Trader Joe's and Basha's in the health food section.

Enjoy the season!

Uniform Petals

It's back-to-school time, Mamas!  Are you as ready as I am?  Don't get me wrong, I love me some quality time with the kids - craft projects, outings, vacations and all.  But I am ready for a little routine.

For all of the kids who don uniforms, I've got some new Petals in fun combos of navy, white and blue.  These are available direct (just email me) or through Daydreams at DC Ranch Crossing.

Favorites: Blogs

Pintrest has made blog-hopping infinitely more fun.  Before you can blink, you've traveled from one blog, through another and loop-holed yet into another.  Each creative, inspiring and jaw-dropping.  I can get lost for...minutes...hours?  Here are few that top my list.

Smitten Kitchen - After I wipe the drool from my mouth, I read the beautiful descriptions and am encouraged to give these recipes a try.
zucchini, tomato and rice gratin

Jones Design Company - Gorgeous printables, beautifully styled home (check out her office!) and inspiration on living a blessed life.

The Pleated Poppy - Living in a colorful, funky California seaside home, Lindsey posts motivational outfits, crafts, party, travel and cooking ideas.  She calls them "beautiful imperfections of the everyday", but it all is perfectly charming to me.

Scrap Wreath Tutorial

I've been meaning to use up my heap of fabric scraps and turn them into something pretty for my daughter's room.  A scrap wreath seemed like an easy and fun project for both of us to create together.

I started off with a 12 inch wire florist wreath from the craft store.  These retail for $2 and you're using scraps, so this project is super cheap.

Next you'll want to cut strips of fabric into pieces that are approximately 1/2-3/4 inch in width and 5-7 inches in length.  I cut as I went so that I could see how the colors were coming together, but if you have a specific color theme and are only using a few fabrics you might want to cut them all at once.  I wasn't too precise for this project.

I wanted the wreath to be whimsical with a mix of soft colors and some brights mixed in.  You'll notice that the wreath is divided up into eight sections.  I started by picking one fabric and tying a strip of it to one wire in each section, then I would move on to the next fabric and do the same.  This helped make my random choice of fabrics look symmetrical and not too bunched up visually.  You can see what I mean in the photo below.  Pardon the cell phone photo...It wasn't until I finished that I thought maybe I should blog about this and take "real" photos.

Keep plugging along cutting and tying...I noticed that adding solids helped tone down the craziness, depending on the look you are going for.  Then you'll want to trim any pieces that seem too long.

And here's how it will look...Perfect touch of happiness and whimsy for a little girl's room!

Whew...It's been a whirlwind two weeks traveling around the Pacific Northwest visiting family and friends.  We took a few day trips and explored the cutest little towns and harbors.  One area that was completely new to me is the Boise-Eliot district in Portland, Oregon.

Uber-hip, this neighborhood has all the trends covered: vintage clothing stores on wheels, food trucks, artisinal ice cream, CSAs and modern traditional toy stores.  If you ever get to Portland, hop the MAX and spend the afternoon browsing through this unique neighborhood.

First stop, Ruby Jewel for a scoop of chevre pine-nut brittle, honey lavender or whatever funky flavor is the ice cream du jour.

If you're into vintage clothing, be sure to pop in Lodekka or Wanderlust for treasures.  Wouldn't it be a dream owning a little mobile shop like this?

And if Lodekka is every vintage mama's dream then SpielWerk Toys is every child's.  Each toy in the shop was high quality, classic and natural.  The front of the shop features a play area, although my kids loved exploring the store too.  Any knight, pirate or cooking fans out there?  Huge assortment!

Imagine the Anthropologie home decor section on crack combined with a sweet flower stand.  That's Ink & Peat.  My favorite little shop on the street.  Yes, we braved this with three kids.  No, we did not break a single item.

An entire store dedicated to salt and chocolate?  Of course!  This is Portland.

If you're traveling on foot like we were, you're probably ready to kick back with a beer or hard cider and let the kids run free in the garden or play area (play area in a brew pub - love!) at Hopworks Urban Brewery.  Be sure and try the warm, salty pretzels with cheese dip.  You'll be so glad you did.

Couple of other spots to check out:
